New Laptop

Today I picked up a new laptop from Best Buy. I spent over an hour roaming around looking at all the difference choices. I even considered an Apple but was greatly discouraged by the price. In the end I settled on a new Sony Vaio.

The Vaio is rocking a new Core i7 at 1.6GHz with 6 gigs of ram and a spacious 500GB hard drive. The screen is 16.4” with a native resolution of 1920x1080 which allows you to appreciate watching movies on the built-in Blu-ray player.

The new laptop came with a ton of “free” software that needed to be removed. Why do manufacturers load this crud onto their machines. It only makes their machines seem slow. Rather then try to clean it out I opted to start fresh with a new install of Windows 7 Ultimate. Wouldn’t it be nice if your new machine was clean and fresh when you bought it?

I still have to install Visual Studio, Office, SQL and other must-haves but so far I’ve had no problems. It boots fast and seems to be running well. The large screen has a big impact on the battery life but that’s to be expected. And the spectacular experience of watching Blu-Ray on the ~17” makes it worth it. I have to say I’m happy with my purchase and would recommend this laptop to others.
